Vecima Networks Inc. announced the strengthening of the Company's senior management group with the appointment of Richard Funnell to Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and the promotion of Sumit Kumar to Executive Vice President. Richard Funnell, the newest member of Vecima's executive team, brings more than 20 years of high-tech management experience to his new role as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. In a career spanning the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, Mr. Funnell has held a number of senior executive roles in a variety of technology companies including President of the Datastream Division of Xyratex, now part of McAfee, an antivirus software and computer security company. In his new role as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Mr. Funnell will assist the CEO and Executive Vice President in forming and executing a strategic plan to realize revenue and profitability growth in the short and long term. Mr. Funnell holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree, specializing in communications, from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Sumit Kumar has been promoted to Executive Vice President from his previous position of Vice President, Corporate Strategy. In his new role, Mr. Kumar will work closely with the CEO, the senior management team, and the Board of Directors to develop, manage, and execute the overall strategy for the Company. Mr. Kumar has significant technical and executive experience with the Company, having worked in the R&D department on the architecture and development of EdgeQAM and WiMax products as well as within the business development and senior management groups since joining Vecima in 1995. Mr. Kumar holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
