Capital expenditures were $443,000 compared to $194,000 in nine months of 2008. An increased rate of capital investment will continue as the company will expand its Midvale facility to take advantage of current attractive construction costs. In fourth quarter of 2009, the company expects to see a positive change in income statement categories compared to fourth quarter of 2008 yielding final sales and earnings per share of 6% to 7% lower for 2009 as a whole compared to 2008. The company expects that it will be able to achieve closer to the top than the bottom of the $1.71 to $1.75 earnings per share range previously projected for the calendar year 2009.

Analysis of Results of Operations a) Overview In second quarter (2Q) 2009, UTMD's consolidated global sales were 11% lower than in 2Q 2008. 2Q 2009 earnings per share (EPS) were $.416 compared to $.490 EPS in 2Q 2008.
