In addition, it offers various technology solutions for automated shipping, visibility, and billing; service, information technology systems, and distribution facilities to various industries, such as healthcare, technology, and consumer/retail; and a portfolio of financial services that provides customers with short-term and long-term financing, secured lending, working capital, government guaranteed lending, letters of credit, global trade financing, credit cards, and equipment leasing. As of December 31, 2008, the company operated a fleet of approximately 107000 package cars, vans, tractors, and motorcycles, as well as an air fleet of approximately 570 aircraft. United Parcel Service, Inc. declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.45 per share on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares. The dividend is payable on December 3, 2009, to shareholders of record on November 16, 2009.
UPS announced the introduction of a new application for iPhone and iPod touch users that not only ships and tracks packages but also uses built-in GPS features to find the nearest UPS location. Available at the App Store, the new UPS Mobile App for the iPhone enables users to track shipments, create shipments using the My UPS address book, calculate shipping rates and time-in-transit and then find the nearest UPS location. The free shipping app joins other UPS-enabled solutions for Apple users. iPhone and iPod touch users can use their devices to access their My UPS Address Book and Preferences and create shipping labels, which can be e-mailed in a PDF file for printout. Once the label is printed, customers can use the application's 'find locations' feature, which leverages the built-in GPS to locate UPS. The new iPhone App doesn't require log-In for tracking. But when logged in, the application shows a history of tracked shipments and automatically refreshes when the application is opened. UPS tracking numbers also can be nicknamed for reference.

As severance checks peter out, unemployment benefits come to an end and job searches drag on, many Americans will want to consider going for that staple of seasonal employment, the Christmas holiday job. Employers are taking on extra workers for the season, even as the economy continues to hemorrhage jobs. “We are seeing an uptick in the demand for holiday work vs. last holiday season,” reports Joanie Ruge, senior vice president at the staffing giant Adecco Group North America. Last Christmas, when the recession was hitting with full force, employment in retail trade jobs increased 59,100 in October, 233,700 in November, and 91,500 in December, according to Gary Steinberg, a spokesman for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
