On March 11, 2010, G. Todd Marchant notified United Financial Bancorp and its wholly-owned subsidiary, United Bank of his intention to retire from the Boards of Directors of the company and the Bank, in accordance with the company's age limitation provisions. The retirement will be effective at the company's 2010 annual meeting of shareholders to be held on April 15, 2010, at which point Mr. Marchant will continue as a Director Emeritus.
United Financial Bancorp Inc. Reports Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year of 2009

United Financial Bancorp Inc. reported earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2009. The company reported that net income jumped 25% in the fourth quarter as certain assets and core deposits grew, net interest margins expanded and the banking company took in more income not related to interest. United Financial posted net income of $1.2 million, or 8 cents per diluted share, during the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared to net income of $959,000, or 6 cents per diluted share, a year earlier. For the full year 2009, the banking company reported net income of $5.8 million, or 38 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $7.3 million, or 44 cents per diluted share, in 2008. Full year results were impacted by the cost of acquiring CNB Financial Corp. and Commonwealth National Bank of Worcester and by a special assessment paid to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
