Sypris Solutions Inc. Retires Debt and Extends Credit Facilities

Sypris Solutions Inc. announced that it has completed the retirement of certain debt obligations and extended the maturity dates of its credit facilities. Under the terms of the amendment, $16.7 million of debt will be retired under the notes, reducing the outstanding balance to $13.3 million from $30 million, while the revolving credit facility will be reduced to $21 million from $50 million. Overall liquidity on a pro forma basis reflecting the completion of the recent transactions increases nearly 100% to over $25 million, while the maturity dates for all facilities were extended to January 15, 2012 from January 15, 2010. Interest expense is expected to be reduced by an estimated $4 to $5 million on an annual basis, thereby positively impacting future cash flow.

Sypris Solutions posts 3Q loss
Sypris Solutions Inc. reported a third-quarter loss amidst declining revenue and continuing restructuring of operations. Louisville-based Sypris (NASDAQ: SYPR) had a net loss of $1.8 million, or 9 cents per share, compared with a loss of $7.8 million, or 42 cents per share, a year earlier. Third quarter revenue declined to $62.7 million from $86.1 million a year earlier. A consensus of financial analysts polled by Thomson Financial Network had predicted a loss of 14 cents per share on revenue of $84.8 million. Revenue in the company’s electronics division fell to $25.6 million from $28.1 million a year earlier, primarily as a result of aging product programs, the company said in a news release. Despite the decline, Sypris president and CEO Jeffrey T. Gill said in the release that he believes the outlook for the electronics division is favorable. Revenue in Sypris’ industrial division fell to $37.2 million from $58 million a year earlier, primarily due to a drop in the sales of commercial vehicles and trailers. Gill said in the release that he expects the market to rebound slowly over the coming months, but recovery will be tied to the rebound of the economy. He added that Sypris officials anticipate production levels will remain at or near current levels for the foreseeable future. For the first nine months of 2009, Sypris Solutions had a net loss of $19.9 million, or $1.08 per share, compared with a loss of $8.3 million, or 45 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue during the same period declined to $199.8 million from $275.4 million. Sypris Solutions is a maker of electronic components for the defense and aerospace industries.
