The Board of Directors of Straits Trading Co. Ltd. announced the appointment of Ms. Sng Kiat Huang as an additional Secretary of the company with effect from March 8, 2010.

Straits Trading Co. Ltd. reported unaudited consolidated and parent earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2009. For the group, total revenue for the quarter was $232.4 million compared with $225.7 million a year ago. Profit before tax from continuing operations was $49.2 million compared with loss before tax from continuing operations of $38.4 million a year ago. Profit attributable to equity holders of the company, net of tax was $31.1 million or 9.5 cents per share compared with loss attributable to equity holders of the company, net of tax of $31.1 million or 9.5 cents per share a year ago. Net cash flows used in operating activities was $30.7 million compared with net cash flows provided by operating activities of $32.8 million a year ago. The company reported cost incurred on property, plant and equipment of $1.8 million compared with $11.4 million a year ago. For the year, the groups total revenue was $951.9 million compared with $1,245.9 million a year ago. Profit before tax from continuing operations was $160.7 million compared with profit before tax from continuing operations of $73.9 million a year ago. Profit attributable to equity holders of the company, net of tax was $139.9 million or 42.9 cents per share compared with profit attributable to equity holders of the company, net of tax of $57.6 million or 17.7 cents per share a year ago. Net cash flows provided by operating activities was $38.1 million compared with net cash flows provided by operating activities of $98.5 million a year ago. The company reported cost incurred on property, plant and equipment of $4.2 million compared with $64.1 million a year ago. For the parent, the companys loss for the quarter was $3.2 million compared with profit of $28.5 million a year ago. For the year, the companys profit for the quarter was $17.3 million compared with $383.9 million a year ago. The company declared interim dividend of 2 cents per ordinary share (one-tier tax) compared to first interim dividend of 2 cents per ordinary share (one-tier tax) for the same period a year ago. The dividend is payable on May 4, 2010.
