Streamline breaks even in 2Q
Streamline Health Solutions stemmed its quarterly losses, and produced an operating profit in its first half, even as its revenues fell. The health care software firm posted a net loss of $18,000, or zero cents per share, compared to a net loss of $429,000, or 5 cents per share in in the year-ago quarter. Total revenues fell to $4.1 million from $4.9 million. Streamline said in a news release that systems sales dropped by about $845,000 and application hosting services fell by $79,000 during the quarter. Services, maintenance and support revenues grew by $126,000. The company also cut expenses by more than $1.2 million, to $4.1 million in the second quarter. For the first six months of fiscal 2009, Streamline reported a net loss of $1,600, or zero cents per share, versus a net loss of $1.2 million, or 13 cents per share, in the first half of fiscal 2008. Total revenues dropped to $7.8 million from $8.5 million, but the company generated an operating profit of $11,000. “While capital procurement for information technology in the hospital segment continues to be constrained by spending moratoriums in individual institutions and hospital groups of all sizes throughout the country, we believe that a substantial pent-up demand is building up as the economy recovers and the federal stimulus package positively impacts health-care software expenditures,” said CEO Brian Patsy in a news release. The company also signed a hosting contract worth nearly $1 million in the second quarter, for an unnamed existing customer, the company said. Shares of Streamline (NASDAQ: STRM) fell almost 6 percent, or 17 cents, to $2.73 in Thursday afternoon trading.
