Non-GAAP earnings for the first quarter exclude stock-based compensation expense, amortization of intangible assets, fair value inventory adjustments, acquisition related costs, certain legal expenses and other discrete items.

Semtech Corp. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended January 31, 2010. For the quarter, the company reported net income of $9,479,000 or $0.15 per diluted share on net sales of $85,019,000 compared to net income of $6,271,000 or $0.10 per diluted share on net sales of $62,695,000 for the same period of last year. Operating income was $5,428,000 compared to $7,182,000 for the same period of last year. Income before taxes was $5,774,000 compared to $7,585,000 for the same period of last year. On non-GAAP basis, net income was $18,870,000 or $0.30 per diluted share compared to net income of $8,263,000 or $0.14 per diluted share for the same period of last year. For the year, the company reported net income of $956,000 or $0.02 per diluted share on net sales of $286,560,000 compared to net income of $37,521,000 or $0.61 per diluted share on net sales of $294,820,000 for the same period of last year. Operating income was $30,916,000 compared to $41,891,000 for the same period of last year. Income before taxes was $33,970,000 compared to $46,178,000 for the same period of last year. On non-GAAP basis, net income was $55,378,000 or $0.90 per diluted share compared to net income of $52,509,000 or $0.85 per diluted share for the same period of last year. The company estimates net sales for the first quarter, which ends May 2, 2010, will increase 7% to 13% on a sequential basis. GAAP earnings for the first quarter of fiscal year 2011 are expected to be 13 to 16 cents per diluted share.
