Rush Enterprises, Inc. reported consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $295,637,000, operating income of $4,748,000, income before taxes of $3,322,000, net income of $1,534,000 or $0.04 per diluted share compared to total revenue of $382,684,000, operating income of $10,030,000, income before taxes of $7,733,000, net income of $5,123,000 or $0.14 per diluted share over the same period last year. For the full year, the company reported total revenue of $1,239,289,000, operating income of $9,315,000, income before taxes of $3,216,000, net income of $5,884,000 or $0.16 per diluted share compared to total revenue of $1,654,956,000, operating income of $52,917,000, income before taxes of $45,087,000, net income of $28,865,000 or $0.75 per diluted share over the same period last year. These results include a $3.0 million pre-tax impairment charge, which equates to a net loss of $0.05 per diluted share, related to the General Motors Corporation's decision to stop manufacturing medium-duty trucks and wind-down the Company's GMC Medium-Duty Dealership Agreements. The company expects to see a slight increase in sales during the first quarter of fiscal 2010, as compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, as trucks with engines manufactured before new emissions regulations took effect on January 1, 2010 are delivered from its inventory.
