Rush Enterprises Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and first nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the third quarter ended September 30, 2009, the company's gross revenues totaled $302.4 million, a 26.9% decrease from gross revenues of $413.7 million reported for the third quarter ended September 30, 2008. Net income for the third quarter was $3.0 million or $0.08 per diluted share compared with net income of $8.0 million or $0.21 per diluted share in the third quarter ended September 30, 2008. Operating income for the period was $1.20 million and loss before tax was $250,000 compared to operating income of $13.97 million and income before tax was $12.16 million for the same period previous year. For the nine months, the company reported net income of $4.35 million or $0.12 per diluted share on total revenue of $943.65 million compared to net income of $23.74 million or $0.61 per diluted share on total revenue of $1.27 billion for the same period previous year. Operating income for the period was $4.40 million and loss before tax was $106,000 compared to operating income of $42.80 million and income before tax was $37.35 million for the same period previous year.
