On November 10, 2009, PMA Capital Corp. was notified by William E. Hitselberger, its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, that he was resigning from the Company effective December 8, 2009 to accept a position at another insurance company. John M. Cochrane, Senior Vice President - Finance, will be appointed interim Chief Financial Officer and principal accounting officer effective December 8, 2009. Mr. Cochrane, 54, joined the Company in August 2003 as Vice President - Controller and was promoted to Senior Vice President - Finance in October 2007.

PMA Capital Corp. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. Book value per common share was $12.38 as on September 30, 2009. Net premiums earned were $119.259 million in the third quarter of 2009, compared to $123.995 million in the third quarter of 2008. The company reported pre-tax income of $11.217 million, income from continuing operations of $7.249 million or $0.22 per basic and diluted share, net income of $7.209 million or $0.22 per basic and diluted share on gross premiums written of $164.339 million and total revenues of $132.863 million compared to pre-tax income of $2.006 million, income from continuing operations of $1.251 million or $0.04 per basic and diluted share, net loss of $1.059 million or $0.03 per basic and diluted share on gross premiums written of $151.498 million and total revenues of $117.373 million for the same period of last year. The company reported operating income of $6.732 million or $0.21 per share and pre-tax operating income of $10.422 million compared to operating income of $6.405 million or $0.20 per share and pre-tax operating income of $9.935 million for the same period of last year. For the first nine months of 2009, net premiums earned increased to $317.539 million, from $316.924 million for the first nine months of 2008.
