Key developments for POLYCOM INC (PLCM)
Polycom, Inc. announced that it has received Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL) certification from the U.S. Department of Defense for the Polycom RMX 2000(TM), a highly scalable and resilient multipoint conferencing platform for high-definition (HD) telepresence, audio and video conferencing. Complementing existing UC APL certifications for the Polycom HDX line of room and personal telepresence systems, Polycom solutions enable government customers to securely bridge telepresence and audio and video conferencing across secure networks to support a wide variety of mission critical applications. The Unified Capabilities APL, as tested by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), applies to every Department of Defense (DOD) Information Technology (IT) and National Security System (NSS) and assures that the Combatant Commander, Services, and Agency systems can interoperate securely in a joint, combined, and coalition environment in support of global net-centric war-fighting capabilities. The Polycom RMX 2000 is built on an open, standards-based architecture to ensure interoperability and connectivity regardless of network type (H.323/SIP, PSTN, ISDN) or endpoint used, and offers unrivalled flexibility for supporting HD telepresence, as well as legacy video conferencing systems. The Polycom RMX 2000 also supports the integration of real-time voice and video collaboration into core unified communications platforms from Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners. The Polycom RMX 2000 features many unique capabilities that benefit government agencies, such as Polycom Video Clarity(TM), which upscales the resolution of non-HD video streams, and Polycom Lost Packet Recovery(TM), which protects conference quality, allowing users with limited bandwidth capabilities and legacy endpoint technology to receive a superior quality of experience. It is also the only platform to support up to 160 video and 800 audio calls on a single chassis without cascading, which enables agencies to optimize their enterprise investments, consolidate infrastructure and reduce energy consumption within their data centers, while also simplifying management and reducing costs.
Polycom, Inc. announced the first, comprehensive, standards-based solution combining real-time visual communication, live and on-demand video streaming, digital signage and network-efficient video content distribution, designed to help organizations tackle the inherent communication and collaboration challenges of managing a distributed and mobile workforce and operating globally. Enabling this solution is a new, scalable video content platform that allows organizations to cost-effectively create and efficiently distribute live and on-demand video content and digital signage. This new solution complements Polycom's telepresence, video conferencing and desktop video collaboration solutions to give customers unprecedented capabilities for video-enabling their organizations. It also allows customers to enhance unified communication (UC) networks from Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners to support critical enterprise collaboration needs, such as corporate communication, training, distance learning, project communications, customer events, and sales and marketing communications.
Polycom, Inc. announced its highly scalable Polycom CMA Desktop(TM) video collaboration application will now support Apple Mac OS(R) X. Polycom CMA Desktop for Mac OS X supports high quality video and voice communication and offers seamless interoperability with the existing Polycom CMA Desktop for Windows, as well as the estimated two million standards-based telepresence and video conferencing systems in use. Polycom CMA Desktop is tightly integrated within the Polycom Converged Management Application(TM) (CMA(TM)), the only comprehensive and fully redundant video network management solution that also vastly simplifies the provisioning, management and ease of use for extensive personal, room and immersive telepresence deployments across organizations. A single Polycom CMA server can support both the Windows and Mac OS X versions of CMA Desktop simultaneously. This unique solution addresses key challenges organizations face when deploying desktop video, such as: Centralized Management and Control -- By integrating the desktop video application within the management platform, Polycom gives IT administrators unprecedented provisioning, management and reporting capabilities for successfully deploying desktop video across organizations. Polycom CMA centrally controls user permissions through Active Directory credentials, manages endpoint software, monitors and reports on usage for detailed analysis of return on investment. Consistent Quality of Experience -- Polycom CMA Desktop features Lost Packet Recovery(TM) technology, which ensures a consistent, high quality experience at the desktop, even when remote users are calling over less-than-perfect network environments such as the open Internet. Scalability -- The Polycom CMA supports thousands of CMA Desktop users while simultaneously supporting personal, room and immersive telepresence deployments as well. Ease of Use -- Users receive a pre-provisioned application that ensures proper settings and removes complexity. Users are able to easily add contacts from the corporate directory (Active Directory integration) and instantly launch video calls with the click of a name. Standards-Based Interoperability -- Like all Polycom visual communication solutions, Polycom CMA Desktop is based on established video conferencing standards, native integration and open interoperability, allowing users to connect with other standards-based desktop and room video conferencing systems.
