Omron Corp. reported consolidated earnings results for the first half ended September 30, 2009. For the period, the company's net sales decreased 34.5% to JPY 232,371 million compared with JPY 354,670 million for the same period of the previous fiscal year, reflecting the global economic slowdown and weak capital investment among manufacturers. The significant decrease in net sales led to an operating loss of JPY 7,685 million compared to operating profit of JPY 18,603 million for the same period a year ago. Loss before income taxes was JPY 9,617 million and net loss attributable to shareholders was JPY 6,900 million compared to profit before income taxes of JPY 19,291 million and net income attributable to shareholders of JPY 19,291 million for the same period a year ago, respectively. Net loss per basic share attributable to shareholders was JPY 31.34 compared to net income per basic share attributable to shareholders of JPY 56.14 for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was JPY 28,040 million, a decrease of JPY 6,788 million compared to JPY 21,252 million for the same period of the previous fiscal year. The company expects to report loss before income taxes of JPY 3,500 million on net sales of JPY 510,000 million for the full year ending March 31, 2010.
