Omnicell Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of $54.0 million, up $1.3 million or 2.5% from the second quarter of 2009, and down $10.4 million or 16.1% from the third quarter of 2008. Net income as reported in accordance with GAAP was $0.9 million or $0.03 per diluted share. This compares to net income of $0.9 million or $0.03 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2009 and net income of $2.9 million or $0.09 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2008. Non-GAAP net income was $3.3 million or $0.10 per diluted share. This compares to non-GAAP net income of $3.3 million or $0.10 per diluted share for the second quarter of 2009, which excludes $2.4 million in stock compensation expense. Third quarter 2009 results compare to non-GAAP net income of $5.7 million or $0.18 per diluted share for the third quarter of 2008. Income from operations was $0.9 million compared to $4.2 million for the same period of last year. Income before provision for (benefit from) income taxes was $1 million compared to $4.9 million for the same period of last year. For the nine months, the company reported net loss of $0.1 million or $0.00 per diluted share on total revenue of $158.8 million compared to net income of $9.4 million or $0.28 per diluted share on total revenue of $189.8 million for the same period of last year. Loss from operations was $0.7 million compared to income from operations of $13.6 million for the same period of last year. Loss before provision for (benefit from) income taxes was $0.3 million compared to income before provision for (benefit from) income taxes of $16.4 million for the same period of last year. Non-GAAP net income was $8.7 million or $0.28 per diluted share compared to non-GAAP net income of $18.2 million or $0.54 per diluted share for the same period of last year.

Omnicell Inc. plans to look for acquisitions. Rob Seim, VP Finance of the firm said, “As you know, I mentioned before, we've got a business development team that is examining a pipeline of potential acquisitions at any point in time, and when we get to the point where we've got a great product line to add in and augment our existing product lines, we'll be moving on that.” When asked, “Would you be open to buying a smaller company and taking on some near-term dilution?,” Randall Lipps, Chairman, President of the firm said, “I don't like to do that, but sometimes that's the only choice you're given. But if it makes a lot of sense. It would have to make a lot of sense for the company and make a lot of leverage that we could use with our marketplace. We certainly would look at those pretty hard.”
