Newcrest Mining Ltd. Announces Earnings Results for the Six Months Ended December 31, 2009

Newcrest Mining Ltd. announced earnings results for the six months ended December 31, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported operating sales revenue of AUD 1,187.5 million compared to AUD 1,294.2 million for the same period a year ago. Operating profit was AUD 409.0 million compared to AUD 356.4 million for the same period a year ago. Profit before income tax was AUD 274.3 million compared to AUD 236.6 million for the same period a year ago. Profit after tax attributable to owners of the parent was AUD 176.2 million or AUD diluted per share compared to AUD 154.0 million or AUD diluted per share for the same period a year ago. Underlying profit was AUD 266.6 million or AUD 55.0 diluted per share compared to AUD 241.6 million or AUD 52.7 diluted per share for the same period a year ago. Total Comprehensive Income for the period was AUD 221.8 million compared to AUD 262.7 million for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was AUD 479.7 million compared to AUD 588.5 million for the same period a year ago. Payments for property, plant and equipment were AUD 42.4 million compared to AUD 51.3 million for the same period a year ago.
