Nara Bancorp Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported net income available to common stockholders of $2.9 million or $0.11 per diluted share on net interest income of $24.2 million compared to net income available to common stockholders of $5.0 million or $0.19 per diluted share on net interest income of $24.8 million for third quarter 2008. The decline in net interest income was due to the decline in the net interest margin, caused in part by an increase in liquid assets with lower yields resulting from the increase in deposits during the first half of 2009, substantially offset by an increase in average interest earning assets. Income before income taxes was $6 million compared to $8.6 million for the same period of last year. ROA was 0.49% compared to 0.77% for the same period of last year. ROE was 5.54% compared to 8.56% for the same period of last year. For the nine months, the company reported net loss available to common stockholders of $8.5 million or $0.32 per diluted share on net interest income of $65.9 million compared to net income available to common stockholders of $12.6 million or $0.48 per diluted share on net interest income of $73.5 million for third quarter 2008. Loss before income taxes was $10.9 million compared to income before income taxes of $21.4 million for the same period of last year. Negative ROE was 2.42% compared to ROE of 7.27% for the same period of last year. Negative ROA was 0.24% compared to ROE of 0.66% for the same period of last year.
