BY DAVID BENOIT NEW YORK—Small-capitalization stocks climbed back into positive territory on Friday, as material stocks and consumer staples led the broad-based gain on strong corporate earnings reports. With Friday's performance, small-caps managed a gain for the week—their second consecutive week in the black, despite never heading in the same direction for consecutive days during the two weeks. A broad-based fall on oil prices had small caps in the red on Thursday. Still, the small caps, which are perceived to be riskier because of more limited liquidity and domestic focus, didn't have as strong a week as large-capitalization measures.
