Lifepoint Hospitals Inc. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Year Ended December 31, 2009; Announces Impairment Charges; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year 2010

Lifepoint Hospitals Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2009. For the quarter, revenues from continuing operations were $746.9 million, up 10.7% from $674.9 million for the same period a year ago. Income from continuing operations attributable to company increased 26.5% to $38.6 million, or $0.71 per diluted share, compared with income from continuing operations attributable to company of $30.4 million, or $0.58 per diluted share, for the same period last year. Net income attributable to company was $38.0 million, or $0.70 per diluted share, compared with $28.0 million, or $0.53 per diluted share, for the same period last year. Net cash provided by operating activities was $119.6 million compared to $85.0 million for the same period a year ago. Purchase of property and equipment was $47.8 million compared to $46.1 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $119.5 million compared to $107.6 million for the same period a year ago. For the year, revenues from continuing operations were $3.0 billion, up 9.7% from $2.7 billion for the prior year. Income from continuing operations attributable to company, increased 9.8% to $139.2 million, or $2.59 per diluted share, compared with $126.7 million or $2.37 per diluted share, for the prior year. Net income attributable to company, was $134.1 million, or $2.49 per diluted share, compared with $103.0 million or $1.93 per diluted share, for the prior year. Net cash provided by operating activities was $349.9 million compared to $334.1 million for the same period a year ago. Purchase of property and equipment was $166.6 million compared to $157.6 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $469.3 million compared to $449.8 million for the same period a year ago. For the year 2010, the company expects estimated net revenue to be in between $3.1 billion-- $3.2 billion. The estimated adjusted EBITDA to be in between $470 billion-- $500 million and estimated EPS to be in between $2.50 -- $2.80. The company has posted impairment charges of $1.1 million.
