Key developments for LLX Logistica SA (LLXLY)
Bloomberg reported that Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista transferred voting shares of MMX Mineracao e Metalicos SA, LLX Logistica SA and MPX Energia SA to their holding company EBX Investimentos Ltda. The report added that LLX Logistica SA is seeking a partner for its Porto Sudeste port project in southeast Brazil.
LLX Logística S.A. reported earnings results for the second quarter of 2009. For the quarter, the company posted a BRL 50.8 million net profit, up from the BRL 2.26 million reported in second quarter of 2008. The financial income stemmed from financial revenues of BRL 158 million. This was driven by the partial reversal of the provision for derivative-related losses amounting to BRL 126 million. Hedge settlement gains of BRL 14.6 million and interest earned on cash investment of $12.4 million contributed to the result. Net revenue fell 38.3% to BRL 3.62 million compared to BRL 5.86 million posted in second quarter of 2008.
MMX Mineracao e Metalicos S.A. informed its shareholders and the market in general that LLX Logística S.A. ('LLX'), through its subsidiary LLX Sudeste Operações Portuárias Ltda. obtained the construction license for the construction of 'Port Sudeste,' a port terminal with a capacity of 50 million tons of iron ore per year. This license is the precedent condition for the beginning of the port construction, which is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2009. Located in the municipality of Itaguai, 80 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro and only 4 km away from MRS railway network, Port Sudeste will handle the production from MMX's Sudeste System ('MMX Sudeste') mines located at Minas Gerais State. The long-term contract for land lease and iron ore handling at Sudeste Port has already been executed with LLX and will serve all MMX Sudeste export capacity. The MMX Sudeste System, together with the LLX Sudeste Port, represents a competitive integrated solution in Brazil of high quality iron ore mining coupled with independent, efficient and secure logistics to export its production.
