Intesa Sanpaolo SpA is likely to take part in the privatization of Belarusian Bank of Development and Reconstruction Belinvestbank Joint-Stock Company (Belinvestbank). The state is divesting a controlling stake in Belinvestbank under an agreement between Belarus and the International Monetary Fund (IMF); Interfax reported citing a source in banking circles. Talks between Belarusian officials and Intesa are known to be in initial stages. Intesa has not yet conducted a due diligence on Belinvestbank. On October 29, National Bank CEO Pytor Prokopovich stated that Commerzbank AG was no longer in talks on the Belinvestbank privatization. He added that the government holding talks with another West European bank.
Exor SpA has yet to make a formal bid for Banca Fideuram SpA, being sold by Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, the chairman of the company said on October 28. "We have not made an offer. We have only expressed an interest," John Elkann told reporters. Intesa Sanpaolo wants to sell Fideuram to strengthen its capital base and concentrate on its core activities. People with knowledge of the situation told Dow Jones Newswires on October 23 that Intesa was in advanced talks with Exor for a deal that it not forthcoming. The people also said that Intesa was also interested in a partial sale or a listing of Fideuram. Intesa is being advised by Banca Leonardo SpA. Elkann refuted news reports that Leonardo might take a minority stake in Fideuram for itself. “Banca Leonardo is the adviser of Intesa Sanpaolo, there is nothing else," he said.
