IRIS International Inc. announced that its Sample Processing Division has initiated shipments of its new StatSpin(R) OvaTube(TM) System for use in veterinary hospitals, clinics and reference laboratories to process fecal samples for the detection of ova and parasites. The StatSpin(R) OvaTube(TM) is a single use disposable device for centrifugal flotation of ova and parasites, representing a significant ease of use improvement over the existing standard centrifugal method with comparable accuracy. It is a novel disposable centrifugal device that is significantly easier to use, cleaner and twice as fast than the current gravity flotation devices used and is designed to be compatible with most fixed angle or horizontal bench top centrifuges already broadly used in the market. Fecal samples are collected, mixed with flotation fluid, and centrifuged all in the same device, with results obtained on site while the veterinary patient is waiting.

IRIS International Inc. reported unaudited and consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the period, the company reported that operating income increased 7% to $2.3 million and net profits increased 18% to $1.9 million, or $0.11 per basic and diluted share, the highest in any third quarter period, despite a 5% decline in overall revenue to $22.2 million as a result of lower U.S. instrument sales, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009. This compares with operating income of $2.2 million and net earnings of $1.6 million, or $0.09 per basic and diluted share, on revenue of $23.4 million in the prior year third quarter. Third quarter earnings reflect an increase in research and development expenditures to $2.9 million, or 13% of revenue, against $2.8 million, or 12% of revenue in the same quarter a year ago, as well as increased R&D tax credits. Income before provision for income taxes for the quarter was at $2.53 million, down from $2.38 million reported for the same period last year. Net profits for the nine months ended September 30, 2009 were $4.3 million, or $0.24 per basic and diluted share, versus $5.6 million, or $0.30 per basic and diluted share, in the 2008 nine month period. Revenues for the 2009 nine month period were $66.1 million, a decline of 4% from the $68.8 million reported in the first nine months of 2008. Income before provision for income taxes for the period was at $5.96 million against $8.31 million reported for the same period last year. The company is maintaining guidance for full year 2009, anticipating revenue of $94-$96 million and earnings of $0.40-$0.42 per fully diluted share. The 2009 guidance does not include any revenue relating to NADiA(R)ProsVue(TM).
