Investors Real Estate Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT), engages in the ownership and operation of income-producing real estate properties in the United States. It owns multi-family residential properties and commercial office, medical, industrial, and retail properties located primarily in the upper midwest states of Minnesota and North Dakota. As of April 30, 2008, the company operated a real estate portfolio of 72 multi-family residential; 65 office; 48 medical; 17 industrial; and 33 retail properties. Investors Real Estate Trust has elected to be taxed as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. As a REIT, the trust is not subject to federal corporate income taxes, if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its shareholders. The company was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Minot, North Dakota with additional offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Omaha, Nebraska; and Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri.www.iret.com

Investors Real Estate Trust Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended January 31, 2010

Investors Real Estate Trust reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended January 31, 2010. For the quarter, the companys revenues decreased to $60.1 million from $60.9 million a year ago. FFO decreased to $14.7 million or $0.16 per share from $15.5 million or $0.19 per share a year ago. Net loss available to common shareholders was approximately $0.14 million or $0.00 per share, compared to net income available to common shareholders of $0.79 million or $0.02 per share a year ago. Net income declined from the year-earlier periods, primarily attributable to increased vacancy in all segments and in particular its multi-family residential segment, impairment of real estate investment and an increase in depreciation, interest expense and real estate expenses in the three and nine month periods ended January 31, 2010 compared to the three and nine month periods ended January 31, 2009. Net operating income was $35.8 million compared with $35.1 million a year ago. EBITDA was $32.8 million compared with $33.4 million a year ago. For the nine months, the company's revenues increased to $180.5 million from $179.4 million a year ago. FFO decreased to $45.7 million or $0.52 per share from $48.0 million or $0.60 per share a year ago. Net income available to common shareholders was approximately $0.98 million or $0.02 per share, compared to $4.5 million or $0.08 per share a year ago. Net operating income was $107.3 million compared with $105.7 million a year ago. EBITDA was $99.7 million compared with $100.7 million a year ago.
