Key developments for IPEX, Inc. (IPEX)
IPEX Inc. has launched Bionax(TM) PVCO Pressure Pipe. Using a revolutionary new production process, PVC is molecularly modified under precisely controlled stress and temperature conditions to form a new material-Biaxially Oriented PVC or PVCO. This remarkable process transforms PVC in to a 'super material' with almost double the tensile strength, and three times the toughness of the starting stock. In addition, this new material exhibits dramatically increased fatigue resistance and ductility. Bionax PVCO pipe is suitable for buried potable water mains, irrigation applications and sewage force mains. This new pipe technology also represents a major step forward in terms of environmental sustainability. According to independent studies, Bionax pipe has less 'embodied energy', and therefore a smaller carbon footprint, than other common piping materials. Once installed, it's larger inside diameters and smooth surface reduce the energy (and costs) associated with pumping.
IPEX, Inc. announced that effective October 31, 2008, it will discontinue the production and the sale of WarmRite FloorŪ pipe, fittings and accessories for the North American hydronic heating market. Unfortunately, the WarmRite product line no longer meets the business targets that IPEX requires. Increased competitive pressures and poor market conditions have resulted in the continuing decline of WarmRite sales and profitability.
IPEX, Inc. has entered into an exclusive arrangement with Underground Solutions, Inc. that will see IPEX become UGSI's exclusive licensee for Fusible PVC pipe systems in Canada. Under the terms of the agreement, IPEX will assume responsibility for the manufacture, sales and technical support of all Fusible PVC(TM) products in Canada. Fusible PVC pipe is AWWA C900/905 pipe joined in the field using a specially developed butt-fusion process. The result is a monolithic, fully restrained PVC pipe that is perfectly suited for horizontal directional drilling and other trenchless applications. While customers were forced to use HDPE for these applications in the past, Fusible PVC pipe now allows municipalities to standardize on PVC throughout their system, as it is fully compatible with their existing inventories of pipes and fittings. More importantly, the larger inside diameters associated with Fusible PVC pipe significantly reduces energy costs for pumping as compared to HDPE.
