In addition, the company manufactures and provides sodium hydroxide in ?Rayon Grade? liquid form for use in aluminum, paper and cellulose, chemical, soap and detergents, cleaning, refinery, metal works, food, textile, and water treatment industries; and sodium hypochlorite for various industrial applications, such as textile, cellulose and paper, and water treatment applications. Solvay Indupa S.A.I.C. announced that it has agreed to form a joint venture with Rafael Albanesi to build and operate a thermoelectric power plant at Solvay Indupa's Bahia Blanca, Argentina chemical complex. Total investment in the project is $158 million. Solvay Indupa will hold a 58% stake in the joint venture, dubbed Solalban Energia. The power plant will start up in the second quarter of 2009 with initial capacity of 120 megawatts; its capacity will later be increased to 165 megawatts.
Solvay Indupa SA has signed a letter with banks Deutsche Investitions and Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (DEG) and Standard Bank to structure a long-term financing deal for a 165-MW, combined-cycle gas-fired plant the petrochemicals producer plans to build at the port of Bahia Blanca in central Argentina. The long-term loan for $90 million would be divided into two sections of eight years and five years each, with a two-year grace period in both cases.
Solvay Indupa S.A.I.C. announced that it has formed a venture to build a power plant, a move aimed at improving electricity supplies for its operations in energy-tight Argentina. The company will have a 58% stake in the venture, which is called Solalban Energia. Argentine energy trader, pipeline builder and consulting company Albanesi will hold the remaining shares in Solalban. The venture will build a 165 MW combined-cycle power plant to feed Solvay Indupa's 240,000 mt/yr PVC plant and other petrochemical facilities in Bahia Blanca. The company has announced construction of the plant would cost $135 million and come on line in January 2009.
