Great Plains Energy Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported electric utility earnings of $83.9 million and income from continuing operations of $78.4 million and net income attributable to the company of $78.7 million or $0.58 per share compared to electric utility earnings of $102.5 million and income from continuing operations of $104.7 million and net income attributable to the company of $104.6 million or $0.92 per share for the same period a year ago. For the nine months, the company reported electric utility earnings of $134.1 million and income from continuing operations of $137.0 million and net income attributable to the company of $133.3 million or $1.04 per share compared to electric utility earnings of $127.4 million and income from continuing operations of $112.5 million and net income attributable to the company of $146.3 million or $1.54 per share for the same period a year ago. Based on year-to-date results and the company's assessment of prospects for the fourth quarter of 2009, the company is narrowing its 2009 earnings guidance range to $1.10 to $1.18 per share from its previous guidance range of $1.10 to $1.40 per share.

Great Plains Energy Inc. Declares Common Stock Dividend Payable on December 21, 2009

Great Plains Energy Inc. announced that its Board of Directors approved a quarterly dividend of $0.2075 per share on its common stock. This action continues Great Plains Energy's indicated annual dividend level of $0.83 per share. The common dividend will be payable December 21, 2009 to shareholders of record as of November 30, 2009. The shares will begin to trade ex-dividend on November 25, 2009. The Board of Directors also declared regular dividends on the Company's 3.80%, 4.20%, 4.35% and 4.50% series of preferred stock, payable March 1 2010 to shareholders of record as of February 5, 2010.
