Executives, Board Directors Key developmentsGulf Ethanol Begins Commercial Design and Testing
10/28/2008
Gulf Ethanol Corp. announced that it is beginning the commercial design phase of its biomass preprocessor system development. Gulf Ethanol Corp. is developing a system that processes biomass, such as sorghum or switchgrass, into a fine powder. It is believed that particle size reduction of the biomass will expose more of the cell walls and increase the speed and efficiency with which the materials can be converted to simple sugars. Only simple sugars can be fermented into ethanol so efficient conversion of the materials is essential to cellulosic ethanol production. Gulf Ethanol Corp. Reports Lab Results
10/6/2008
Gulf Ethanol Corp. reported its initial lab tests. Gulf Ethanol has developed a cellulosic feed-stock pre-processor which it believes will be an important component in the future success of low cost cellulosic ethanol. Gulf has submitted samples of its product to Microbac Laboratories, a nationally recognized independent testing laboratory and has now received its initial results. Particle Size-One of the core goals of pre-processing feed stocks is to reduce particle size. Particle size implicates two important principles: a) smaller particles have more net surface area per unit of mass and, therefore, generally allow for the ethanol to be processed from the feed-stock more quickly; b) smaller particles allow for continuous flow processing because the fine cellulose powder does not need batch processing to be efficient, and c) smaller particles reduce transportation costs because the density per cubic foot is higher. Gulf Ethanol Reports Progress of Prototype Feed-Stock Preprocessor
09/22/2008
Gulf Ethanol Corp. reported that the prototype feed-stock preprocessor is functioning as designed. The technology to take ethanol feedstock input and produce a very finely powdered, dry feedstock for shipping and processing is working well. The Company will now develop and assemble the peripheral systems to complete the feedstock processing unit. This includes such things as the dust collection units that are capable of capturing particles as small as 3 microns and which meet all environmental dust containment requirements; materials processing equipment for feed stocks as they are delivered into the processing unit for continuous processing and electronic user interfaces, instrumentation, and gauging to allow for automated operations. When the development of this peripheral equipment is complete, the company will be ready to complete the design of its first full commercial scale feedstock preprocessor.
