Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica S.A. reported earnings results for the first nine months to September 2009. For the nine months, the company fell deep into the red slumping 70% to EUR 86 million (USD 128.3 million). The sharp decline is explained with the lack of extra-ordinaries. In the same period last year the company booked capital gains from the sale of its solar power unit to US private equity firm. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation went down by 11% on the year to EUR 311 million, while earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) dropped by 17% to EUR 164 million.
Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica S.A. has named Dirk Matthys as chief executive officer of its entire North America presence including all manufacturing and development operations. Mr. Matthys joined the company in July 2009 initially heading up North America turbine sales operations after two decades in the steel industry and most recently with ArcelorMittal. From May 2005 through 2008, Mr. Matthys was CEO and country manager of Arcelor China and later of ArcelorMittal China.
Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica S.A. announced that Guillermo Ulacia, has resigned as president and board member. Ulacia, who cited strictly personal reasons for his resignation, will be replaced by Jorge Calvet Spinatsch. Until now, Calvet occupied the vice-presidency at the company's board of directors. He took up that position in 2007, two years after he joined Gamesa's board as an independent member. His professional background is primarily in investment banking in New York, London and Madrid, where he held positions in Morgan Stanley, UBS and Fortis.
