Enel SpA seeks to sell high-voltage grid of Endesa SA in the first half of 2010. Besides, the company also expressed its intention to complete an asset sale plan for €10 billion by the end of 2010. Chief Executive of Enel, Fulvio Conti said on November 4, 2009 that the company would work to cut its debt to below €45 billion in 2010. Sale of high voltage grid is part of debt-reduction strategy.
Endesa SA posted third-quarter net profits of €785 million, a drop of 1.8%, amid a fall in electricity revenues due to the economic crisis. The group said sales leapt 20.2% to €7.322 billion ($10.777 billion). For the nine months ended September 2009, reported profits plunged 55% to €3.048 billion due to the absence of one-off gains from asset sales.
