Morphosys AG announced the formation of a new alliance with Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited in the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies for hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections. Under the terms of the agreement, MorphoSys and Daiichi Sankyo will collaboratively apply HuCAL PLATINUM, the latest and most powerful version of MorphoSys's antibody libraries. The companies will jointly apply established as well as novel approaches to generate optimized, fully human therapeutic antibodies against targets associated with nosocomial infections. Depressing Data Cannot Suppress Tokyo Shares
Shares in Tokyo moved ahead Friday, even though the Japanese finance minister warned that the recession is exacting an ever-heavier toll on Japans economy. Hong Kong's benchmark index, however, closed lower, as investors cashed in shares of banking giant HSBC ahead of its earnings result next week.Japanese investors seemed undeterred by a fresh set of gloomy macroeconomic data, sending the Nikkei 225 average up by 110.49 points, or 1.5%, to close at 7,568.42. The broader Topix swelled by 1.9%, to 756.71. The government reported that factory output fell by a record 10% in January from the prior month, and household spending dropped by 5.9% compared to the corresponding month a year ago.
