Citi Trends reported consolidated unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended August 1, 2009. For the quarter, net sales were $111.60 million against $115.65 million a year ago. Loss from operations was $0.85 million against income from operations of $3.96 million a year ago. Loss before income tax benefit was $0.10 million against income before income tax expense of $4.45 million a year ago. Net loss was $0.06 million or $0.00 per basic and diluted share against net income of $2.84 million or $0.20 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Net loss attributable to common shares basic and diluted was $0.06 million against $2.80 million a year ago. Sales and earnings in 2009's second quarter were adversely affected by a difficult comparison to the second quarter of 2008 when the customers' spending increased due to the government stimulus checks.
