The company operates in three segments: Corporate Banking, Personal Banking, and Treasury Business. The Corporate Banking segment provides various financial products and services to corporations, government agencies, and financial institutions. Its products and services primarily comprise corporate loans, trade financing, deposit products, agency services, financial consulting and advisory services, cash management services, remittance and settlement services, custody services, and guarantee services. The Personal Banking segment offers a range of products and services to individual customers, including personal loans, deposit products, cards, personal wealth management services, remittance services, and securities agency services. The Treasury Business segment engages in inter-bank money market transaction and repurchase transaction businesses; invests in debt instruments; and trades in debt instruments, derivatives, precious metal, and foreign currency. As of December 31, 2008, the company had a network of 13,374 branches and sub-branches in Mainland China; maintained overseas branches in Hong Kong, Singapore, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Tokyo, and Seoul; had representative offices in New York, London, and Sydney; and maintained 31,896 ATMs and 3,595 self-service banks in Mainland China. The company was founded in 1954 and is headquartered in Beijing, the People?s Republic of China. Key developments for CHINA CONSTRUCTION BANK -A (601939)
China Construction Bank Corporation announced that the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) had approved Pang Xiusheng as its vice president. Pang Xiusheng, aged 51 years, served as the China Construction Bank's CFO.
China Daily reported, citing a source close to the situation that China SAFE Investments Ltd. (CSI) is looking to increase its stakes in three Chinese banks. According to an unnamed source, if China Securities Regulatory Commission approves the sale of shares in 2010, CSI would raise its stake in Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, China Construction Bank Corporation, and Bank of China. CSI would not put capital directly in these companies.
HSBC Holdings plc said that it is not planning a major investment in either one of China Construction Bank Corporation, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited or Bank of China. The firm dismissed reports that it is looking to buy a 51% stake in Bank of China, China Construction Bank Corporation or Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited. The Daily Telegraph reported that HSBC added that it is comfortable with a 19% stake in Bank of Communications.
