The Company is a federally chartered mid-tier mutual holding company incorporated in March 1999. The Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, which is majority-owned by MHC, a federally chartered mutual holding company. The Company’s common stock is traded on the Global Select tier of the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol “CFFN.” The Bank is the only operating subsidiary of the Company. The Bank is a federally-chartered and insured savings bank headquartered in Topeka, Kansas and is examined and regulated by the Office of Thrift Supervision (“OTS”), its primary regulator. It is also regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (“FDIC”). We primarily serve the entire metropolitan areas of Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Manhattan, Emporia and Salina, Kansas and a portion of the metropolitan area of greater Kansas City through 29 traditional and nine in-store banking offices. Capitol Federal Financial Announces Financial Results for the First Quarter Ended December 31, 2009

Capitol Federal Financial announced financial results for the first quarter ended December 31, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported net income was $21.0 million compared to $15.9 million for the same period in the prior fiscal year. The $5.1 million increase in net income between periods was primarily a result of a decrease in interest expense of $10.1 million and an increase in other income of $6.5 million. Diluted EPS was $0.29 compared to $0.22 for the same period in the prior fiscal year. Total interest and dividend income for the current quarter was $98.9 million compared to $105.3 million for the prior year quarter. The $6.4 million decrease was primarily a result of decreases in interest income on MBS of $5.6 million and loans receivable of $2.2 million due to a decrease in the average yield of both portfolios, partially offset by an increase in interest income on investment securities of $1.2 million due to an increase in the average balance of the investment securities portfolio.

Capitol Federal Financial announced today that Morris J. Jack Huey II will retire from the company on January 29, 2010. Mr. Huey has been with Capitol Federal since 1991 and has served as Chief Lending Officer since 2002. Mr. Huey was elected to the company's Board of Directors in January 2009. Mr. Rick C. Jackson has been promoted to Executive Vice President and will become Chief Lending Officer effective January 29, 2010. Mr. Jackson has been with the Bank since 1993 and has held the position of Community Development Director since 1998. Mr. Jackson has been working with Mr. Huey since March 2009 in transitioning the leadership of the lending operations of the company. Mr. Jackson serves on the Board of Trustees of the Capitol Federal Foundation. Mr. Jackson graduated with a B.B.A. from Baker University.
