Companhia Paranaense de Energias (Copel) CEO, Rubens Ghilardi said on March 10, 2010 that his company is interested in acquiring Centrais Eletricas de Santa Catarina-CELESC (Celesc) if it is put up for sale, or to form a partnership with it. If Santa Catarina is interested in selling, Copel wants to buy. If it's a partnership, Copel is interested in forming one too, he said. Rubens Ghilardi said that the merger of the two companies could be a more acceptable alternative to privatization. Celesc is not for salebut I see no problem with a partnership, said Felipe Luz, CEO of Celesc Distribuicao SA. Ghiladri, meanwhile, admitted he is willing to discuss the acquisition of the stake held in Celesc by Brasilprev Previdncia Privada S/A. Centrais Eletricas de Santa Catarina-CELESC announced that it will earmark more than BRL 200 million (USD 113.6 million/EUR 78.8 million) for investments in 2010.
