It also provides safety and security products, such as lockout/tagout products, security and traffic control products, and spill control and clean-up products; wire and cable identification products, including labels, sleeves, software, and printers; and people identification systems and products, such as photo ID card systems, digital imaging and other technologies, self-expiring name tags, and ID accessories, as well as photo identification kits. In addition, Brady Corporation offers high performance identification products and precision die-cut parts; and designs and produces software for barcoding and inspection automation, industrial thermal-transfer printers, and electromechanical devices. The company primarily serves customers in general manufacturing, maintenance and safety, process industries, construction, electrical, telecommunications, electronics, laboratory/healthcare, airline/transportation, security/brand education, governmental, public utility, and various other industries. Brady Corp. announced earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended January 31, 2010. Sales for the quarter were up 11.0% to $295.8 million compared to $266.4 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2009. Organic sales were up 2.9%, acquisitions contributed 0.9% to sales, and the impact of foreign currency translation improved sales by 7.2%. Net income for the quarter was $15.0 million compared to a net loss of $4.2 million in the fiscal 2009 second quarter. Excluding restructuring charges, net income in the quarter was up 79.4% from $9.8 million in the fiscal 2009 second quarter to $17.6 million this quarter. Earnings per diluted Class A Common share were $0.28 in the quarter compared to a net loss of $0.08 per share in the fiscal 2009 second quarter. 2010 results include after-tax restructuring charges of $2.6 million or $0.05 per diluted share; 2009 results include after-tax restructuring charges of $14.0 million or $0.27 per diluted share. Operating income for the quarter was $23.9 million against $4.6 million and income before income taxes was $19.8 million against loss before income taxes of $3.4 million reported last year. EBITDA (non-GAAP measure) was $38.6 million against $16.4 million reported last year. Sales for the six months were $614.3 million compared to $644.8 million in the same period last year. Net income for the first six months of fiscal 2010 was $36.7 million compared to $33.0 million in the same period in fiscal 2009. For the six-month period, earnings per diluted Class A Common share were $0.69 compared to $0.62 in the prior year. Results include after-tax restructuring charges of $5.2 million or $0.10 per diluted share for the six-month period ended January 31, 2010 and $15.2 million or $0.29 per diluted share for the six month period ended January 31, 2009. Excluding the after-tax impact of restructuring charges, six-month earnings per diluted share were $0.79, compared to $0.91 in the first-half of fiscal 2009. Operating income for the quarter was $59.5 million against $60.8 million and income before income taxes was $50.3 million against $48.3 million reported last year. Net cash provided by operating activities were $68.0 million against $22.0 million purchases of property, plant and equipment was $15 million against $13 million reported last year. EBITDA (non-GAAP measure) was $88 million against $88.2 million reported last year. The company is reiterating its guidance range for net income of $85 to $95 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.60 to $1.80, excluding pretax restructuring charges of $15 million and $0.20 per diluted share.
