Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced that it will close its 50,000 selling-square foot Elder-Beerman Salem Furniture Gallery in Trotwood, Ohio. The closing, which is scheduled for the beginning of December, will impact approximately 10 associates. The closing costs for the location will not be material. Bon-Ton will convert the existing furniture square footage at its Elder-Beerman Northwest store in Dayton, Ohio into a clearance center for furniture with a scheduled opening in mid-December.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced sales results for the four weeks, third quarter and year to date ended October 31, 2009. For the period, the company reported sales increased 3.1% compared with the prior year period. Total sales for the four weeks increased 2.5% to $224.0 million compared with $218.4 million for the prior year period. For the third quarter, comparable store sales decreased 2.6% compared with the prior year period. Total sales decreased 2.9% to $703.9 million compared with $724.9 million for the prior year period. Year-to-date comparable store sales decreased 6.9%. Year-to-date total sales decreased 6.7% to $1,957.7 million compared with $2,098.6 million for the same period last year.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced that, based upon favorable sales trends for the month of October and third fiscal quarter ending October 31, 2009, it believes results for the full year of fiscal 2009 will be at the high end of the previously stated guidance range. Guidance provided on August 20, 2009 was for fiscal 2009 EBITDA in the range of $150 million to $170 million and for loss per diluted share in the range of $3.70 to $2.50. EBITDA is not a measure recognized under generally accepted accounting principles.
