Balqon Corporation announced the release of its new Battery Management System (BMS) designed to optimize battery cycle life of large format lithium-ion batteries used in its product line of heavy-duty electric trucks and tractors. Each BMS board is equipped with multiple temperature sensors and a flash microcontroller together with Balqon's proprietary software that works with any electric vehicle's battery cell chemistry. Battery Management System incorporates a Society of Automation Engineers (SAE) J1939 controller area network (CAN Bus) capable network which allows seamless communication between the different components of electric vehicles, such as automatic transmission, charger and proprietary flux vector inverters. This development increases ability to utilize data from the key components of electric vehicles more intuitively during charge and discharge cycles, and thereby increase the energy efficiency of vehicles.
Balqon Corporation Enters into a Dealer Agreement with Autoelevadores Yale

Balqon Corporation announced that it has entered into a Dealer Agreement with Autoelevadores Yale. Under the terms of the Dealer Agreement, Balqon Corporation has assigned Autoelevadores Yale as an authorized Balqon Dealer for heavy duty electric vehicles and parts and service in Argentina. Successful completion of reliability and performance testing lithium-ion battery powered Nautilus XE20 product line and the recent expansion of international sales team puts on the path to global commercialization of product line during 2010. In addition, the company believes that presence in South America, will allow to jointly exploring other opportunities for proprietary heavy-duty electric traction drive systems and lithium-ion battery management systems within transportation markets through joint ventures with regional original equipment manufacturers throughout South America.
Balqon Corporation Completes Cold Weather Testing on Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Electric Tractor

Balqon Corporation announced completion of cold weather testing on its lithium-ion battery powered electric tractor, the Nautilus XE20. The cold weather testing of Balqon's newest product, the Nautilus XE20, is a continuation of the engineering developments at Balqon. Demonstration of the performance of the Nautilus XE20 in actual warehouse applications at temperatures below 10[deg]F under loads exceeding 25 tons validates belief that the durability, range and performance of heavy-duty electric vehicles would not be diminished due to the effects of cold weather The Nautilus XE20, released earlier this month, is designed, integrated, and built in cooperation with Autocar(R) Truck and their Xspotter(R) yard tractor team. The Nautilus XE20 is designed for off-highway container or semi-trailer "spotting" applications, and is equipped with Balqon's proprietary heavy-duty drive system and lithium-ion battery management system. The Nautilus XE20 is designed to travel at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and is capable of towing loads of up to 40 tons. Field demonstrations conducted at both a large beverage distribution warehouse and an industrial manufacturing facility showed lower energy consumption over competitive diesel powered vehicles operated in a similar environment.
