Key developments for Areva SA (ARVCY)
Henri Proglio, Chief of Electricité de France (EDF) said that EDF "could play a role" if Areva SA’s AREVA NP SAS opened up its capital. Analysts speculated that EDF may buy Siemens AG's 34% stake in AREVA NP. Siemens is currently in talks with Areva to sell the stake. Mr. Proglio added, “I am interested in having a strong Framatome, backed up by strong French and foreign players.” Les Echos reported that Areva and EDF declined to comment.
Czech power utility (CEZ) and Areva SA signed a major 15-year uranium enrichment services contract for the Temelin nuclear power plant (units 1 and 2). This agreement will contribute to securing CEZ's long-term nuclear fuel supply.
Areva SA is in talks with Fonds Strategique d'Investissement SA (FSI) regarding the sale of its 25.4% stake in Eramet SA, daily Les Echos reported citing sources close to the matter. According to the report the talks are feverish and FSI may pay up to €1.5 billion for the stake. The sources stated that the talks are at an advanced stage and are yet to be finalized. Eramet has a market capitalization currently of €6 billion. The report stated that Areva may also divest its stake in STMicroelectronics NV to FSI. Areva denied commenting on the issue, the report added.
