The Applications Software Group offers applications software, including contact center software, IMS applications, and operations support systems and business support systems software. This segment also offers multimedia and communications related services. The company sells its products and services to telecommunications service providers directly, as well as through indirect channels, value-added resellers, and joint ventures. Alcatel-Lucent has strategic relationships principally with Edgeware, Convergys, and Airvana. The company was formerly known as Alcatel and changed its name to Alcatel-Lucent in December 2006. Key developments for Alcatel Lucent SA (ALU)
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected as one of the vendors by Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) Group for its Long Term Evolution (LTE) trial, which will begin in the first half of 2010. The trial will jump-start deployment of 4G LTE networks for the SingTel Group, Asia's leading telecommunications operator with a regional mobile-user base of more than 273 million. Alcatel-Lucent will be leveraging its LTE expertise to provide an end-to-end solution including the radio access network (eUTRAN), the Evolved Packet Core (EPC), IP service routing network elements as well as operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) systems. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide professional services including project management, planning, installation & commissioning, integration and test plan execution. This new trial is a further illustration of the leading role Alcatel-Lucent is playing in the emerging LTE market.
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Vietnam Mobile Services Company (VMS) to deliver its highly configurable Converged Payment solution that will enable VMS to broaden its services portfolio to 54 million pre-and post-paid mobile subscribers. To support the rapid subscriber growth of VMS, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 8610 Instant Convergent Charging Suite (ICC) over 100% of the entire network. The ICC, which enables real-time rating and charging for voice and data services, will allow VMS to quickly bring to market new convergent mobile prepaid and post-paid services. Alcatel Lucent will also undertake the design, project management, integration, installation and commissioning of the solution.
Alcatel-Lucent and Thales have won a contract from Beijing MTR Corp. to provide a turnkey signaling solution for the Daxing line metro project. Under the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will be responsible for network integration service, as well as consulting, design, and engineering services. Thales will provide its SelTrac Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The 22 km long Daxing line will include 11 stations and connect Daxing district in south suburban Beijing with downtown through to the Beijing metro line 4.
