Tom Adams named E&Y entrepreneur of the year
Ernst & Young LLP has been named Rosetta Stone Inc. President and CEO Tom Adams its national entrepreneur of the year. Rosetta Stone has doubled its size since 2007, it went public in April during a drought of initial public offerings and the company earned net income of $5.3 million in its most recent quarter ended Sept. 30. Adams, born in Sweden and schooled in the United Kingdom, joined a company called Fairfield Language Technologies as its CEO in 2003. He revamped the small, family-owned business’s business model, its sales force and research and development teams. Adams moved the company to the Washington area and gave it a new name— Rosetta Stone, for the 19th century artifact that allowed scholars to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics. Adams— fluent in Swedish, English and French — has led its international growth since then. Adams was dubbed the top entrepreneur on Sunday at the firm’s award ceremony in Palm Springs, Calif.
